Skimmers are an excellent addition to the pond filtration setup. We recommend the use of a pond skimmer for all ponds in heavily wooded areas or areas prone to airborne debris. They are also nice to have in all other ponds and make maintenance easier. Skimmers are boxes that are installed at the edge of the pond. They connect to any type of flexible liner. Your pump is housed in the back of the skimmer, protected from debris by the collection bag and a layer or two of foam filter material to prevent clogging. Your pump draws water into the box as well as leaves, sticks, catkins, feathers and pollen. Occasionally the skimmer bag must be emptied. Installation is easy; there are comprehensive instructions and a video to help. Removing the debris is a snap.
