Used primarily for Koi ponds or ponds where the filtration equipment is run away from the pond. Engineered specifically for ponds with millions of 1/8" diameter plastic beads that get coated with bacteria to break-down fish waste naturally. Reliable and low-maintenance. They do not clog!

Since bead filter systems are sealed and pressurized, there are few design limitations. The water to be filtered can be drawn over the pond edge, through the pond wall, or through a bottom drain. The pump and filter system can be installed above ground, below ground, or a distance from the pond--whatever is the least visible or most convenient location. Regardless of what design is chosen, unions must be used for each of the pipe connections to facilitate removal of the multi-port valve for internal cleaning, and sufficient vertical clearance must be left to remove the valve (approx. twice the tank height).

Water enters and exits through a sophisticated yet easy-to-use multi-port valve with FILTER, BACKWASH, and RINSE settings. Attached to the bottom of the multi-port valve is a patented low-friction central diffuser column that virtually eliminates the frequent clogging associated with other bead systems on the market. With the valve set to "filter," the water flows out of slots at the bottom of the diffuser column, passes through the floating beads where it is mechanically strained and biologically filtered, and flows out through slots at the top of the diffuser.

Routine maintenance only takes about fifteen minutes, once each week. First, the bottom sludge is drained by opening the bottom valve for a few seconds. Then the multi-port valve is rotated to "backwash" which changes the flow direction, causing water to flow in the top slots of the diffuser column and out the bottom slots and carry accumulated organic matter through the waste line for disposal. After a few minutes, the multi-port valve is briefly set to "rinse" which restores the upward flow of water but conveys the water through the waste line instead of back to the pond. Finally, the valve is rotated to "filter" and normal operation resumes.

All models listed include a backwash blower, except for the 1,200 gal, which is operated for a few minutes just before backwashing to break up the beads and dislodge organic matter. Call us to consult about proper set-up, pump and fittings selection if you are unfamiliar with these filters.
